What does mixed-media mean to you?

Mixed Media for me was the door to a whole new perspective in art. It`s not only about using different art supplies all together but it`s about using that elements to show an specific emotion, it`s about your own and unique view of the world.

How long have you been a mixed-media artist?

I think I’ve been a mixed media artist since I started doing art 10 years ago, my first Mandalas where made with all sort of material….stones, beads, fabrics, wire! Lots of things. But I realized I was one only when I get in contact with other mixed media on-line artists.

How has art impacted or enhanced your life?

Let me put it this way “ART HAS SAVED MY LIFE”, before discovering I was an artist I was dead, I had no projects or joy in my life. Five years ago I had a regular job like a surgical nurse (which I like but my love for it had reached to an end path) and I was burnt off so I decided to quit that job and become a full time artist.

What are a few of the mixed-media supplies that you find yourself using the most?

Papers, I love papers, gesso and gel medium, fabrics, little stones. Lately I`m in love with burned papers.

Who are some of your favorite mixed-media artists?

Wyanne Thomson, Juliette Crane, Jeanette House, Maria Pace-Wynters (I`m crazy about her art lately) , Kate Thompson, Sharon Tomlinson

Tell us about your creative process.

My start point it`s mostly about color and contrast, I NEED color and contrast to start building the piece. Then I start layering, another of my favorite things about mixed media…and someway in the middle of all this process I found a focal image or shape that leads me to the final piece. Other times I`m in the mode for some character so I start layering a background where to paint my Indian, owl, girl or whatever I imagine. But basically my process it`s intuitive, I let my intuition show me the way.

What inspires you?

I`m inspired by the moment, maybe I`m watching a movie and some phrase move some emotion, that can be the starting point for a new piece, the same with a good book. I`m a big fan of portraits too and a good picture always inspires me a new piece. Another inspiration source is all the wonderful art I see online.

Guadas-photo “My name is Guadalupe Brizuela Cabal but you can call me Guada. I`m an artist, a singer, and a creative coach. I live in Argentina and work as a full time artist and Mandala coach.”In 2005 Guada discovered Mandalas and meditation and their healing power. She explored and research about the meditative effects on the brain and devised her own creative approach which she called “The art of changing your mind through Mandalas”. She discovered her natural painting talent and opened an art school in Buenos Aires where she teaches as a full time artist, coaching and sharing her intuitive painting method.

Guada spends her time inspiring new and established artists to embrace their own style and story; she believes that our personal stories lead to our personal creative style. She has also embraced her passion for singing and recorded her first solo CD “Infinite Harmony”, with mantras and music to meditate to while you paint. More recently, Guada expanded her boundaries and now inspires international students from around the world through her on line classes; her students enjoy her fun, relaxed classes, and her philosophy that “Everything will be ok if you just follow your heart”.

  1. I love Guada’s work and the amazing range she offers, each style so accomplished: mandalas, portraits, and stunning abstracts. Her “Release” e-course was brilliant fun and I always look forward to when she shares her work in progress through to the completed pieces. So talented! x

I’m impressed, I have to admit. Rarely do
I encounter a blog that’s both educative and entertaining, and without a
doubt, you’ve hit the nail on the head. The problem is something that too few men and women are
speaking intelligently about. I’m very happy that I found this in my search for something regarding this.
